Outdoor Celebration : Community Tabling Event

UC Walkway - 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Come find out how you can get involved in protecting our planet, both on campus and throughout the state. There will also be crafts and environmentally minded goods for sale!

Interactive Panel Discussion on Environmental Racism :

French Auditorium 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The panel discussion will provide an in depth perspective on the subject and examine the root causes of where and why it is happening in 2016.

Campus Grow Volunteering in the Garden Event :

Community Gardens by IM fields 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Help get the gardens ready for Spring, come play in the dirt!

Birds of Prey Show by the Wildlife Society :

The Wildlife Recovery Association is bringing some exciting birds of prey for an educational and exciting program! There may be screech owls, bald eagles, and great horned owls, to name a few.

 

Reel Paddling Film Festival :

Park Library Auditorium 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This screening of awe-inspiring paddling films showcases the natural beauty of our water resources. Watch, enjoy and get inspired to explore rivers, lakes and oceans, push your physical and emotional limits, embrace an environmentally-friendly lifestyle, and appreciate the heritage of the wild and wonderful places we have to paddle.

Documentary Screening : The Cove

Learn about the secret world of dolphin exploitation and the people who documented it against incredible obstacles. This film is a must watch if you care about the beauty and the respect of life on our planet.

Interactive Panel Discussion on Urgent Environmental Issues in Michigan :

French Auditorium 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Speakers from Food and Water Watch, the Sierra Club, Michigan Coalition Against Tar Sands, Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, and the Ecology Center will discuss the most pressing environmental issues in Michigan and what is being done to protect our beautiful state. Hear about potential internships and employment opportunities with these environmental organizations as well!

Saturday, April 23rd

Experience Earth Week Volunteer Opportunity :

Chippewa Nature Center, 400 S Badour Rd, Midland MI, 48640

volunteer shifts run between 9:45 am - 4pm

Plant seeds to take home or build nesting boxes at one of three time slots  9:45 am - 12 (noon); 11:45 am - 2 pm and 1:45 - 4 pm

Help with tree and shrub planting from

10:00 am - 12:00pm, or 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Invasive plant species pull from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Student Environmental Alliance Hiking Day Trip : 

Deerfield Nature Park, Mount Pleasant, Michigan

12:00 - 2:00 or 3:00pm

Meet some new friends and enjoy the emergence of Springtime with a hike! We will meet on Saturday at 11:50 am in the library parking lot. We will leave around noon and should be back by 3pm

Earth Day - Friday, April 22nd

Service Ambassadors : Volunteer Event

Chippewa Nature Center 11 - 3pm

Get some fresh air while helping maintain our local forests! Service Ambassadors will be sending 12 students (who sign up in advance on April 18th at https://orgsync.com/26702/chapter) to plant trees at the nature center.

CARMA Pick Up the Chip River Clean-Up :

Island Park 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Spend some time cleaning up the Chippewa River and enjoying the outdoors

Float down the Chip in a canoe or kayak and pick up some trash
